Beta FAQ
The questions that come up most about running ProtonAuctions while it is in beta. For questions about the economy engine see the Engine FAQ, and for security and licensing see the Security FAQ.
Is it really free?
Yes. ProtonAuctions is free for the whole public beta. Your download carries its own key, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to enter.
Will I be charged later?
No. You are never billed for the beta. The stable release will be a paid product, but that is a separate, opt-in purchase. Nothing is taken from you automatically.
What happens to my server when the beta ends?
The beta runs for 30 days. When the stable release comes out on day 30, every beta key ends over the following seven days, the least active servers first. A beta key will not unlock the paid stable build. From the start of the wind-down until your own end date, the plugin reminds your staff in the console and in game, and gives players one short line when they join. When your key ends, the plugin does not stop: it switches to recovery-only mode, where trading stops, every listing and barter offer goes back to its owner, and players collect their items and money with /ah claim. Nothing is deleted. A paid Standard or Enterprise licence turns trading back on, or you can switch to another plugin. The full timeline is on Beta Pricing. This applies only to the free beta, a paid licence is never switched off this way.
Can I run it on my main server?
The transaction core, the part that moves money and items, is the most mature piece and is safe to run, especially on a single server with SQLite. The network features, a shared database and Redis, are still maturing, so roll those out gradually. Check Feature Status for where each part stands.
Can an update lose my auctions?
An update must never quietly change or throw away anyone's items or money. Before a new version first starts, ProtonAuctions copies its settings and its SQLite databases to a backup folder. A MySQL or PostgreSQL database is yours to back up. See Data Safety.
Will my data and settings carry over to the stable release?
Yes. Your data is encrypted to your installation rather than your licence, so it stays yours and readable no matter what, and your config.yml carries over. See Integrity & Licensing.
I found a problem. What do I do?
Tell us, that is the whole point of a beta. If the console printed an error ID such as PA-3F9A1C, include it, see Error Reports. See Bug Reports for what else to include and where to send it.
